The Walk for Life is 3 days away! You may have some questions as the big day approaches. We’d love to answer them for you!
When? Where? What?
Saturday, April 28, 2018. The Walk will begin and end at LeBauer Park (208 N. Davie Street) in Downtown Greensboro. Registration will be from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. A short program will begin at 10 a.m. Then we will walk approximately 2 miles through downtown Greensboro. The halfway point will be our former location on Elm Street.
Where do we park?
There are two parking decks: Bellemeade Street Parking Deck or Davie Street Parking Deck. Both parking decks offer free parking over the weekend and are close to LeBauer Park.
What are some exciting things I can expect to see at the Walk?
1. Incentives: Each individual fundraiser has the opportunity to earn incentives (GPCC swag) as they raise funds. The more you raise, the more you get. You could walk away with every incentive if you raise $4,800 or more! (View pictures of the incentives here.)
- $100 – Walk for Life t-shirt
- $600 – 20 ounce stainless steel tumbler
- $1,200 – Ultimate backpack with GPCC logo
- $2,400 – Sport-Tek quarter-zip sweatshirt
- $3,600 – Google Home Mini
- $4,800 – Smart Watch (up to $250 value)
2. Fun Family Activities: We’ll have music, face-painting, free food and beverages, games for the kids, balloons, a magician and all in a celebratory atmosphere.
3. Gated Playground Area: Let your kids enjoy the slides, the rock wall and merry-go-round in the gated playground area. All children must be accompanied by an adult while in the playground.
4. Chick-fil-A: See the Chick-fil-A cow and pick up a bottle to fill with change for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich on any Tuesday in May.
5. Love Life Charlotte: Visit with Love Life Charlotte and learn more about our partnership as they expand into the Triad this summer.
6. Tour the Mobile Unit: Our Mobile Unit will parked on Davie Street and open for tours.
Can I turn in my money early so I don’t have to bring it to the park on Saturday?
Yes! Early check-in is available from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27th, at the Care Center (625 Fulton Street). You can skip the check-in line on Saturday morning, turn in all your offline money, and receive your incentives. Everyone who comes on Friday to turn in their donations will have their name put in a drawing for dinner and dessert for two: Dinner at Rody’s Tavern and dessert at Delicious Bakery. Winner will be announced at the Walk on Saturday.
Can I turn in my money at the park on Saturday?
Yes! The check-in will be open from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. on Walk Day, Saturday, April 28th. If you did not come to early check-in, you will need to stop by the check-in table to turn in your cash and check donations and collect your incentives.
Do I need to go to the check-in area if all my money was raised online?
Yes! We have a bag of goodies for you, some GPCC information, and your earned incentives.
Can my friends and family walk with me even though they didn’t register?
Yes! We want to see a lot of people celebrating life. They do not need to go through the check-in process if they don’t have money to turn in.
What happens if it rains on April 28th?
The Walk for Life takes place, rain or shine. However, if weather conditions become dangerous, the event will be cancelled. Be sure to let your supporters know that the Care Center still needs their support, whether it rains or not. Remember, the real race is to empower 125 moms to choose life!
Are there prizes?
Yes! We have prize packages for the top three individual fundraisers. Will it be you? Prizes will be announced when we return to the park after the 2-mile walk. Stick around to see if you won a prize! Also, the top fundraising team will be announced at that time.
