An unplanned pregnancy can feel overwhelming. But one of the best ways to face your pregnancy without fear is to make a plan. When Christina found out she was expecting her third baby, that’s exactly what she did.
In February 2021, Christina and her partner, Dylan, came to The Pregnancy Network for a pregnancy test and ultrasound. Their nurse, Kelly, shared practical resources and information with them. When Christina and Dylan heard about the Pregnancy 101 class, they were excited to sign up.
Christina felt empowered after her appointments, but she said the group class “uplifted us even more.” The free class was held virtually over Zoom, but that didn’t keep Christina and Dylan from connecting and building relationships with other couples.
“I liked how we engaged with other couples,” Christina said. “They gave us advice.”
Dylan felt equipped during the class as well. “As a first time dad, I was nervous,” he said. But at each class, he gained more knowledge and insight about what to expect in the weeks and months ahead.
Christina particularly appreciated how the class addressed the benefits of spending time reading the Bible as a couple on a regular basis. “When we read the Bible, it helps us better our family relationships. When we put the Bible down, it’s a mess.”
Meredith Weber, one of the class instructors, loves walking alongside parents as they learn and encourage one another throughout their pregnancies:
“I have had the joy of teaching the Pregnancy 101 class for almost seven years. It’s such a wonderful opportunity for parents to learn (or relearn) information regarding their babies, to establish community with other parents in the Triad and to support each other. Each group is so unique, and it’s always a pleasure to see participants interact and relationships grow outside of the classroom. And what a bonus it is when parents keep in touch and share pictures and updates of their babies after the class has ended. I love it!”
Christina and Dylan welcomed their son into the world in September 2021.
