It’s the longest five minutes of your life.
You can barely catch your breath, you’re pacing, opening every app on your phone, looking for a distraction. The timer goes off, and you muster the courage to look at the little stick that dictates your future.
Pregnant.
Fear fills your chest as you process your new reality. You turn to Google or ChatGPT to look for any solution to calm the fear down. Endless retailers populate your search, all suggesting one thing: the abortion pill.
The abortion pill has been approved by the FDA for use up to 10 weeks gestation to end a pregnancy. Consisting of two different drugs, the abortion pill regimen first cuts off the hormone progesterone and then causes your body to expel the pregnancy.
Just like any other substance you put in your body, it’s important to be aware of where it’s coming from. Let’s address a common concern women have as they’re looking for the abortion pill.
Is every online retailer offering the abortion pill safe?
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that every website offering the abortion pill is safe. The FDA’s own website discourages ordering from online retailers, specifically those not verified through the Mifepristone REMS Program. The FDA warns that doing so could bypass specific safeguards put into place for this medication. The FDA describes going through your health care provider, or someone under the supervision of your healthcare provider, as the safest way to access the abortion pill.
