Plumbline 4: Prevent before, walk with during, and equip for life after an unplanned pregnancy.
All of our services at Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center exist to prevent before, walk with during, and equip for life after an unplanned pregnancy.
Before:
Sexual risk avoidance programs help us reach students before an unplanned pregnancy can occur. As a Christian organization, we teach sexual risk avoidance lessons that are based on biblical teaching regarding sex and sexuality. That means our Integrity program for middle and high school students starts in Genesis chapter 1 to see what the Bible teaches about sex and human identity. We continue into discussions on healthy relationships, STDs, and contraceptives, but only after a foundation on biblical teaching.
This approach allows us to not only teach students how to choose the healthiest kind of sexual relationship (which is within a life-long, committed, monogamous relationship with an uninfected partner), but it also allows us to teach them why following God’s design for sex is better. In the Bible, sex isn’t just a rule God gives humanity to follow, it’s an intimate aspect of how humanity bears God’s image in the world. How we view and practice sex becomes a human identity issue; something students should be able to consider.
During:
However, if we are unable to connect with clients before an unplanned pregnancy does occur, we walk beside them during their pregnancy and provide them with resources and services they need in their moment of crisis.
We start by providing health services (pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and STD tests), but we also provide information on all their options, as well as education on how to make healthy choices moving forward. We even meet their resource needs by providing maternity clothes and baby items in preparation for the birth of their child.
After:
Our education and mentoring programs equip clients for life after their unplanned pregnancy, whether they carry their child to term (parenting classes, relationship classes, etc.) or not (abortion recovery). We want our approach in serving clients to be as holistic as we can make it. Our services should meet all their needs if we’re really hoping to make abortion unnecessary for them. Clients deserve to be cared for effectively.
Kimberly’s Story
A sweet young woman named Kimberly1 walked into the Care Center last week with her five-year-old son. She said they were on their way to an appointment somewhere else, but that she just wanted us to know her story.
Kimberly told us that her son would not be here today if it had not been for this organization. She was very grateful for the support she received from us during and after her unplanned pregnancy. She said that it was a very difficult time when she found out she was pregnant because she was still in college. But, the Care Center helped her make it without having to abort her child. We helped show her abortion wasn’t her only option!
Now Kimberly is in graduate school; and while it hasn’t been easy, she is so thankful for our part in saving the life of her son. She wouldn’t trade him for anything in the world. We encouraged Kimberly to come back when she could to share that encouraging news with all our staff and volunteers and to introduce them to her son!
