Pro-Life Kids!: A Resource Helping Your Family Create a Culture of Life

I first saw the title Pro-Life Kids! as I was scrolling through my Facebook feed. I simultaneously felt a surge of excitement and a whisper of skepticism.

Excitement because a children’s book upholding the dignity of life and challenging kids to use their voices on the issue would be such a benefit to parents who seek to create a culture of life within their families.

Skepticism because, well—nothing could be more politically incorrect, right? Could this be real? Could this be good?

My curiosity got the best of me, and I ordered a copy on the spot. When it came in the mail, I had just gotten my two young children settled into their nap times. I settled down on the couch to flip through the book before reading it to my children.

There were tears in my eyes as I turned the last page.

The answer to my previous question? Yes. This book was good

This book’s lyrical rhymes and vivid illustrations work together to paint a picture of what it looks like to be pro-life. The reader is reminded that all life has dignity and value—regardless of size, location, or level of development. Readers are reminded that any time a person is viewed as “less than” or “non-human,” despair and disaster are never far behind (illustrations depicting the Holocaust and slavery are included).

The book ends with a call to action to all kids: go out into your community and value life. A list of practical tips for how to get started is included in the back of the book, as well as personal stories from kids around the country who are making a difference right where they are.

Behind the Book

I reached out to the author, Bethany Bomberger, the next day. I was thrilled to hear back from her, and we scheduled a time to talk about the book. I’m so excited that we get to share our conversation with you on The Empowered Advocate podcast

Bethany shares how Pro-Life Kids! began as a simple poem she wrote for her kids, and grew into a movement that is impacting children and families all over the world. Bethany talks about the difficult topic of abortion and how to share truth on this issue with children in age-appropriate  ways.
