My New Role
Looking back on my freshman year of college, thinking and dreaming about what I would be doing right now as a graduate of Human Development and Family Studies, it is funny to me that a pregnancy care center wasn’t on my radar. I don’t know about you, but when I hear the words “human development” I typically think about pregnancy!
Now, I am sitting at the Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center as a graduate, as the new Outreach Coordinator, thinking and dreaming about how to reach the students sitting where I was 4 years ago, hoping they will catch the vision of living in life-affirming ways. I am privileged to be here and I want to share with you what the outreach department has going on, full steam ahead this year!
Make Up Your Own Mind
Make Up Your Own Mind, our college student organization, is going to Washington, D.C., again! Ascend, formerly known as The National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA), is hosting their annual “Day on the Hill,” where students from around the nation have meetings with their representatives of Congress and may also sit in on a meeting of Congress.
Later in the semester, Make Up Your Own Mind at UNCG will host the annual God & Sex Forum, featuring Dr. Chris Hodgkins as the keynote speaker. Dr. Hodgkins is a professor of English at UNCG. Following his lecture, there will be Q & A with several local panel members where students can text in questions anonymously. It is an inspiring event every year and we are excited for it! Please, bring your students (of any age); this event is open to the public.
Integrity
Integrity, our biblical sexuality program, is taking off at another school, Hayworth Christian, in High Point! We are teaching the faculty, parents, and students what, why, and how to live with sexual integrity. We’ll be beginning the meetings this week, and are planning to begin the full 30-lesson Integrity curriculum this fall.
Kristin Miller is the new Outreach Coordinator for Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center. Kristin’s passion for the mission of the Care Center was ignited during her senior internship working with our outreach programs. She graduated from UNC Greensboro in December 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies
