We are 58 days away from our 2017 Annual Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction. I know this because I have a clock counting down daily on my computer! This year’s benefit dinner is on October 13th and will be held at the Grandover Resort.
As part of our fundraising team, I have the pleasure of planning and executing the silent auction portion of the evening. It’s like Christmas this time of year at GPCC as I see donations come in daily from businesses and people donating items to support the Center.
Many people ask, “How can I get involved with the silent auction?” Here are just a few ways we’d love for you to participate!
- Volunteer. We can use you the day and evening of the event as we set-up and execute the auction. You can also join our calling committee, which is a group of dedicated volunteers making calls to local businesses to ask for donations. Let us know if you want to serve by emailing me at mweber@gsocarecenter.org.
- Donate your time by making it an item in the auction. Say what?? Yes, if you have a talent or provide services, then you can submit that as an item in our auction. Want some examples? If you teach music, then donate some lessons. Are you a photographer, professional nanny, handy-man, baker, lawn care specialist, or dog walker? Get creative and think of how you could donate your talents and time!
- Donate travel items. Do you have airline miles you’ll never use? Donate them. Do you own a second home at the beach, mountains, lake, anywhere NOT in Greensboro? Donate a long-weekend stay or week of time there. These are very popular items and always have great success in raising money for GPCC.
- Donate items. Do you own a business that can donate items or a gift card? Do you frequent businesses where you’re comfortable asking them to donate?
This year we are thrilled to announce that we will also feature our silent auction online! If you are unable to attend the dinner, you can still participate in the auction. We’ll have more details available soon, so be sure to stay connected to our Facebook, Twitter, and website. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing some sneak peeks of who is donating and what they’re providing. You won’t want to miss it!

Meredith Weber is the Development Coordinator and currently teaches the parenting classes for GPCC. She is married and has two little ones who keep her from napping as much as she’d like. In her spare time, Meredith enjoys painting, relaxing with her hubby, watching her kids play together and spending quality time with family and friends over delicious food (especially if it’s Asian-inspired!).
