When Sarah* walked into the Care Center, she was alone and very upset. She had taken a positive home pregnancy test and wanted to talk with someone about the choice ahead of her.
Only a month prior, Sarah was sitting in a waiting room preparing to have an abortion. Intense pressure from her family to do so led her to that decision. While at the clinic, she was shocked to find out that she’d already had a miscarriage before the abortion could be performed.
Now here she was once again: Pregnant, and faced with a decision.
A Courageous Choice
At the Care Center, she met with Haley, a peer advocate. Sarah shared that the whole experience with her first pregnancy was very traumatic for her and that she didn’t want to go through anything like it again. However, she also knew that her family would be very upset about this pregnancy, and possibly push for abortion once again. Haley listened and discussed with Sarah the three options that lay before her: abortion, adoption, and parenting. When Sarah left that day, she felt like she had a ton of information and options before her, but was still undecided about what to do next.
Haley continued to follow up with her, and soon Sarah shared her final decision: she was going to carry to term and parent her child. Also, Sarah now had the support of both her boyfriend and her family. A short time later, Sarah came to the Care Center’s parenting classes with her boyfriend and they began preparing for their new roles as parents.
Last Friday, August 18th, Sarah gave birth to a healthy baby boy! Both baby and Sarah are doing well, and we at the Care Center know that she’s going to be an incredible mom.
We have been so encouraged by Sarah’s brave decision to choose life for her son even in the face of initial opposition from those who were closest to her. Here at the Care Center, we see stories like this very often.
Please join us in praying for Sarah, her new baby boy, and her relationships with her family. Pray also for the young women we meet every day who are also struggling to make a decision about their pregnancy while also dealing with immense pressure from family and friends. Our goal at GPCC is to love and support these women before, during, and after their pregnancy, and to equip them with everything they need to make a life-affirming choice.
We are so happy for Sarah and excited to keep walking with her in the days ahead. We can’t wait to keep sharing more stories just like hers.

Haley Landry works in Client Services at Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center. When she’s not serving clients, she enjoys date nights with her sweet husband, being a mom to her one-year-old son, and hiking with her dogs.
