Meet Maggie Tinsley
How long have you been volunteering at GPCC? In what role do you serve?
I have been volunteering since January 2018. I am a peer advocate and I have started teaching a couple of Life Skills classes on Relationships. My focus is on how sex outside of marriage is harmful not only physically (STDs, unwanted pregnancies), but also emotionally and spiritually. This is a passion of mine!
What do you do when you’re not volunteering?
When not volunteering, I garden, read, hike, and spend time with a large Muslim refugee family (9 sons!). My husband and I lead a young professionals weekly Bible study called The Crossing. We absolutely love this ministry and the young folks God keeps sending our way.
How did you first hear about GPCC and what made you want to get involved?
I have known about GPCC for quite a while and knew of the good reputation they have in the area. I wanted to get involved because I love sharing the gospel and encouraging people in their struggles. I also felt compelled to do what I can to prevent abortion. I kept thinking about examining my life from the view of heaven and knowing that God has placed me in this time, this generation, and this country. I want to look back and know that I did something to intervene.
What do you enjoy the most about being a volunteer?
What I enjoy most about being a peer advocate is watching how God is at work. I keep seeing God make a way to soften hearts! Just when I have mentally determined that someone is unreachable, I see God open up a way to connect them to His love. Often this happens when I pray for them.
What is the most challenging part of being a volunteer?
Listening to where God seems to be leading me in a conversation.
What would you say to someone who is interested in volunteering but nervous about getting involved?
You will be blown away as you watch God at work, and your faith will grow!
Why do you think the mission of the Care Center is important for Christians to be involved with?
When we consider this particular time and place in history that God has placed us in, I believe we would want to say that we did what we could to share the gospel with those who are hurting and to stand up for the rights of the unborn.
What are you currently reading and/or what is your favorite book?
I love to read! A book I enjoyed recently was one I listened to on audio called One Good Mama Bone by Bren McClain.
