Our volunteers are on the front lines at the Care Center every day offering support and care to women and men in Greensboro. We are so thankful for everything they do and the time they sacrifice in order to serve. We’re excited to introduce another volunteer to you this week: Meredith Weber! Meet Meredith Weber
How long have you been volunteering at GPCC?
Since January of 2014.
What role do you serve at GPCC?
Primarily, I teach the parenting classes, but I also help with fundraising events that GPCC hosts. I have assisted with the silent auction at the benefit dinners and helped in my first Walk for Life this past spring.
What do you do when you’re not volunteering?
I get to stay home with my two babies, Isaac and Hannah. They keep me pretty busy! Isaac is my talkative two-year-old and Hannah is my independent 14-month old. When I am not chasing after them, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our families and friends. I also enjoy napping (gotta catch up on lost sleep somehow), playing games, watching Netflix, reading and painting.
How did you first hear about GPCC and what made you want to get involved?
I looked up a Christian pregnancy center where I could volunteer after moving here from Washington, D.C. While I lived in D.C. I was a peer advocate for six years at the Capitol Hill Crisis Pregnancy Center and really enjoyed it. I knew I had to get involved with one in Greensboro, too!
What do you enjoy most about being a volunteer?
Meeting the men and women who come to the parenting classes and teaching them new things! I enjoy getting to know them and LOVE when they stay in touch and I get to meet their children.
What is the most challenging part of being a volunteer?
Balancing time at the Center with my other personal time. It’s hard to get out of the house sometimes with two babies! I am thankful for a supportive husband and parents who live locally and help, as well.
What would you say to someone who is interested in volunteering but nervous about getting involved?
Just jump in and pray about where God wants you. I originally thought I would be a peer advocate since I enjoyed that role in D.C., but God had other plans! I thoroughly enjoy my teaching role and helping with the events. You never know how you will grow as an individual and simultaneously fill a role at the center!
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
To be able to fully function on less than 7 hours of sleep. Seriously. Who has time to sleep more than 7 hours?! I need a sleep-coach!!
