“I’m calling for a price check.”
I paused, adjusting my grip on the phone receiver. As the Client Services Director at a pregnancy care center, I was confused. Surely this guy had the wrong number. Maybe he meant to call a department store or an auto shop, attempting to find the lowest price for the service he needed.
But in the seconds that followed, I quickly realized I was mistaken. This man wanted to know how many dollars he would have to spend to end a life he himself had been a part of creating. He had seen online that Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center offers information about abortion and mistakenly assumed that we also perform them. He wanted me to tell him how much it was going to cost to end this crisis in which he found himself.
In 1973, our nation put a price on human life. We determined its value—the numerical amount of what it’s worth—making it possible for someone to ask for a price check.
57 million lives have ended in abortion in the last 43 years. As our culture continues to decline, it often seems like I’m part of a losing battle. But in the last 6 months, God has used the people I work with to save at least 20 innocent, unborn lives.
I think about the lives these children will live; the schools they will attend, the friends they will make, the people they will marry, the stories they will tell their kids, and the legacies they will leave.
What is the value of these moments—of these lives? What worth can we possibly assign?
We can’t. Without a doubt, each one of them is priceless.
