As the Assistant Fundraiser, I am still on a Walk for Life high. Each time I think back on that day and the weeks that led up to the event, I am in awe of how everything came together and blown away by the amount of money that was raised.

Whats funny is that in the last couple of weeks people have asked me, “How did you do it?” Well, I didn’t do it….You did! Teams came together with a common goal and got the job done. I know that’s not the answer that people usually expect, and I would selfishly like to take the credit. But the truth is, we had some great teams and they did the hard work.

The Big Three

Three teams in particular knocked it out of the park this year, and earned their spot as the Big Three…

#3) Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church

Year after year, this team shows up big. This year they brought in over $6,200. They say that the key to their success is people. Their team is large and they all work together to bring in those big numbers.

#2) Westover Families

Last year this team raised approximately $5000. This year the Westover Families team brought in OVER $10,200, doubling last year’s total! On walk day, I got the opportunity to speak to this team and congratulate them. Their motivation for reaching the top was the Care Center mission, as well as a bit of healthy competition. These men and women are passionate about making abortion unnecessary, but also wanted to win the coveted top fundraising team spot.

Coming in first and earning their name on the coveted Walk for Life plaque that is somewhere in this office…

#1) Lawndale: Finding Common Ground

Finding Common Ground is a new team this year, with 16 fundraisers raising over $14,700. Backed by the Care Center’s mission, teamwork, creativity and healthy competition, these guys kept moving towards their goals. First their fundraising goal was $6,000. When that was checked off the list, they raised the goal to $10,000. Once that was done, with still one week until Walk,  they decided to empower 12 moms to choose life for their unborn children at $14,400 total.

“That’s one mom for each month of the year!” team member, Cheryl Jones exclaimed. Finding Common Ground never settled, but always kept raising the bar. Marin Artiga, our top fundraiser who raised $4,800 on her own, attributes her success to persistence. “We continued to work towards a higher goal right up until the day of the walk,” she says. “Our plan for next year,” she adds, “is to go big or go home!”

Final Total

That’s what I like to hear, “Go big or go home!” As we continue to grow and serve our clients with excellence, I am encouraged by these teams made up of people who are passionate about our mission and the health of our clients. They helped us meet our final amount of…

$141,900!

That final total includes money we raised up to the day of the walk, at the walk event, and after the walk! So it’s even more than we originally totaled up. Though we didn’t meet the goal of $150,000, we came close and raised more money than we’ve ever raised before at a Walk for Life event! That is something to celebrate.

Great Job, teams …until next year!

Priscilla Martin is our Assistant Fundraiser. She’s doing a bang-up job and totally killin’ it in all our fundraising events. Keep up the good work, Priscilla! When she’s not at the center, she’s hanging out with her two kids and husband, or serving with her local church, Lawndale Baptist.
