Here we are only 8 days away from GPCC’s Walk for Life! Can you believe it? Every detail will soon be finalized and final donations calculated. In just one week, we will all come together in celebration of God providing for and blessing this Christian ministry. You may ask, So what? Why does this matter? Why raise money? Why walk?
Well for starters, Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center is the only place in Guilford County that offers FREE ultrasounds. Certified ultrasound technicians and staff RDMS perform limited ultrasounds for eligible clients at the Care Center, as well as on the Mobile Unit. The likelihood of a mother choosing life for her unborn baby increases significantly when that mother can see an ultrasound image of her baby.
That’s why we walk. To give mothers the opportunity to choose life after seeing their babies for the first time.
Secondly, according to a recent report from the CDC, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis reached an all-time high last year in the U.S. GPCC offers oral swabs for HIV and urine tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea. All clients who test positive will be referred to the Guilford County Health Department for treatment.
That’s why we walk. To encourage young people to make positive decisions when it comes to their reproductive and sexual health.
Third, GPCC offers free resources for clients who attend our classes. These free classes cover parenting, relationships, and sexual health, as well as various other life skills and even abortion recovery for those struggling after a past abortion. As clients attend these classes, they receive complimentary baby items, baby furniture and maternity clothes.
That’s why we walk. To empower and guide women and men to be the best version of themselves and fulfill God’s will for their lives.
Next, the Titus 2 Initiative is a mentoring program that allows GPCC to partner with local churches. It serves the purpose of connecting clients who want to grow in their Christian journey with mentors who can teach them more about the Bible, pray with them, or help them connect with a local church.
That’s why we walk. Because GPCC loves and cares for the whole person by meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our clients.
Many of you know that around here I am known as the Fundraising Assistant (or cheerleader at times). However outside of work, God has given me a greater title worth more than any amount of money raised at a Walk or a Benefit Dinner or whatever else. Seven years ago, God gave me the title of “Mommy” for the very first time. As a mother of two young children, I want to teach them that loving others well is sacrificial.
Love is not love without humility and compassion. I want my children to know that each human life is valuable and created in the image of God and that there is forgiveness, redemption, and reconciliation after every poor decision. As a mom, I want to build a legacy of love that my children can pass along to their children. This, my friends, is why I walk.
