What Are Period Pills?

If you’re considering abortion, you may have come across the term “Period Pills”.

Period pills are advertised to bring on your period when it’s late. Sites like PeriodPills.org and ReproductiveAccess.org advise that you don’t have to take a pregnancy test to confirm pregnancy before using.

Why it Matters: While these pills are marketed differently from the abortion pill, they are the exact same drugs as the abortion pill.

A Note from RN Holly: If you are considering taking "Period Pills”, please know that you are in fact taking the medication for a chemical abortion, and could be doing so unnecessarily. It is important to confirm that you are pregnant and to get an ultrasound to confirm that you have an intrauterine (not ectopic) pregnancy, confirm viability, and see how far along you are. ❤️

Next Steps: Consider whether you are comfortable ending an existing pregnancy before taking period pills. Our RNs advise it is against your best interest and safety to take a period pill before taking a pregnancy test.

  • Know the risks of taking the abortion pill without an obstetric ultrasound.
