Why I’m Here: Celebrating Two Years with the Care Center

It’s been two years since my first day as Client Services Director at Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center, which doesn’t seem possible. In honor of my “workiversary,” I want to tell you how I got here and why I’m here.

When I was in high school I went on a mission trip to Brazil, and the following summer I interned at the same place. It was during my time on the mission field that I realized I was called to vocational ministry. I felt there was nothing more important I could do with my time, energy, and talents than to serve the needs of others and then tell them why I was doing it—because of Jesus.

From there, I applied to a couple of Bible colleges and got accepted to The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. During the first semester of my sophomore year, I studied abroad in Greece for three months where, for the first time in my life, I got to truly be still and listen.

What’s My Thing?

In the moments I spent staring at the stars, hiking Mt. Olympus, and running on the streets of an Athens suburb, I reflected back on my life and asked, What’s my thing? It seemed like everyone around me was confident in what they were going to do with their lives, but I wasn’t so sure. What did I do simply because I wanted to? Memories flooded my mind of mentoring girls from church and helping a friend during a difficult time when she thought she was pregnant at 16. My “thing” was simply doing life with women and leading them toward Jesus.

A Step into the Unknown

Fast forward to my junior year at Moody. I was double majoring in Bible and Ministry to Women and looking for an internship to complete my degree when none other than Judy Roderick (GPCC’s Executive Director) came to town to see an old friend—my mom.  Long story short, I was soon approved to intern at Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center for the summer of 2015.

Having never worked or volunteered in the pregnancy center world, I was apprehensive. But by the end of my internship, I realized I loved the ministry! Women were inviting us to enter their stories in their most vulnerable moments. In their time of fear and uncertainty, we provided hope. We cared for them. I loved doing life with women and felt honored to lead them to Jesus, the one who loves them and has offered hope and forgiveness through his sacrificial death and resurrection.

While finishing my senior year, the Client Services Director position opened up. So from four states away I applied, interviewed, and got the job! Ever since, I’ve been living in Greensboro leading women, training them, encouraging them, and helping them grow closer to Jesus. It’s His faithfulness in my life that brings me here today. And it’s His faithfulness I continue to see every day in the hearts of our clients as they are empowered to choose life.

So here’s to another year of having the joy and honor of meeting women where they are and showing them the love of Jesus.
