Don’t get stressed out by the suggestions retail stores make for your baby registry. Be encouraged – you’ll know what you need versus the items that are unnecessary for you and your growing family.
We’ve compiled a list for anyone who’s a first-time parent, a little strapped for cash or a big fan of minimalistic living. It includes just a few items that you’ll want to prioritize for your baby registry – even if they aren’t the most exciting items on your checklist.
Baby Basics on a Budget
- Diapers & wipes – They’re not glamorous, but they are a lifesaver. Purchasing diapers can get expensive quickly. Be sure to add these to your list and stock up on a few boxes of each size.
- Bath supplies – Bath time may soon become a part of your baby’s bedtime routine. Make sure you have shampoo, body wash and lotion that are safe for baby’s eyes and easy on her skin.
- Clothes – Your baby won’t be as concerned with modesty or fashion as much as maintaining a comfortable body temperature. Make sure to find clothes that are seasonally appropriate for each size.
- Car Seat – There are so many styles and options for car seats these days. It’s important to keep in mind that this is a necessity that’s all about safety. It’s an item that should be purchased new, but you can find car seats that will transition to grow with your child.
- Crib – Possibly one of the most exciting nursery purchases, the crib doesn’t have to be expensive to be safe. Find someone handy to help you assemble it to be as sturdy as possible, and you’ll be good to go!
- Mattress – Good news! Most crib mattresses are waterproof now. No extra mattress pads are necessary. This may not sound exciting to you now, but when you have less laundry after a 3 a.m. diaper blowout, you’ll gain an appreciation for this advanced technology.
Take a Breath
If you create a baby registry, you may worry that the items you list aren’t fun enough, and that your friends and family won’t want to purchase the mundane things for you and baby. Don’t be anxious about this. Many of them have been parents before and will recognize the need for practical items.
