The Pregnancy Network Responds – Communications Director Mary Holloman Addresses Sidewalk Advocacy in the Media

In recent weeks, The Pregnancy Network (formerly Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center) has been mentioned in several Yes! Weekly articles, specifically regarding our presence outside the abortion facility in Greensboro. There has been much misinformation, including the accusation that our volunteers have been physically aggressive and illegally blocking traffic.

We recognize that such statements may, understandably, cause concern, and that is why we want to reassure each of you that these allegations are not only misleading, but completely untrue.

The Pregnancy Network exists to empower women to face their unplanned pregnancies without fear. So what does this look like outside the abortion facility?

Our presence on the sidewalk has always been peaceful and law-abiding, and will remain so. Our staff Registered Nurses and trained Sidewalk Advocates offer women driving into the abortion facility an opportunity to receive a free pregnancy test, limited ultrasound, and information about abortion alternatives. These resources and services are offered free of charge. Some women accept our offers of these services and some do not; but the choice always remains theirs.

Our experience, both on the sidewalk and at our Fulton Street location, has been that the majority of women we speak with feel as if abortion is their only option.

We believe that no woman should be in a situation where she feels as if she has no choice other than abortion. This is not empowerment. Every woman has the right to be fully informed prior to making such a decision.

Unfortunately, there will always be those who are uncomfortable with—and even angered by—our presence on the sidewalk. But the reality is this: our community is resource rich, and there are a multitude of resources available to women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. We are doing a disservice to the women in our community if we do not share this information. Women deserve to be fully informed.

“We are doing a disservice to the women in our community if we do not share this information. Women deserve to be fully informed.”

We are committed to presenting women with all their options so they can make a fully-informed decision. We will always treat each woman who seeks out our services with dignity and respect, regardless of the final decision she makes.

We have released a podcast episode where I take time to address these articles and the claims made in each. I’d encourage you to listen and share the podcast (and this blog) on your personal platforms. You can listen to the episode on the player below, or wherever you listen to podcasts.

We are committed to remaining above reproach, regardless of the slander and accusations that have come our way. Our mission remains unchanged: we exist to empower women to face their unplanned pregnancies without fear.

We have served women in the Triad for 35 years, and will continue to do so. We invite you to join us in our mission. There are three ways you can get involved: by praying, giving, and serving.

You can sign up for a weekly phone prayer meeting by clicking here. To get started as a volunteer, your first step is to attend our Open House event. You can register for the next Open House on Monday, March 2 by clicking here

Generous giving allows us to continue offering our services to women free of charge. If you would like to partner with us through a monthly or one-time gift, you can click here.
