An unplanned pregnancy can bring lots of new worries and emotions to your mind.
Licensed mental health counselor Jessica Hatton, owner of Christian Mom Counseling, has two tips to help you process your unplanned pregnancy:
Speaking It Out Loud
“One of the best forms of communication, and I know it sounds kind of silly, but I would say talking out loud. There’s something very cathartic about speaking out loud the things we’re feeling, because it gives them power and validity. I tell my clients to speak what you’re feeling, even if there’s not someone there to actually listen to it.”
Writing Your Thoughts
“The same goes for writing; I might get a little dorky on you, but writing is one of the few forms of work that we can do that incorporates both hemispheres of the brain. When I say writing, I mean actually pen and paper. When people are writing, they are utilizing both the linear parts of the brain, the logical and the linguistic, the language as well as the creative and the emotional expression. Sometimes utilizing both halves really brings together a sense of wholeness and completeness.”
Especially if you’re not ready to tell anyone about your pregnancy yet, these can be helpful tools in finding out where you’re at before approaching anyone else.
